There are many outdoor activities in the area including hiking, horseback riding, white water rafting, skiing, gem mining, and exploring in the tourist cities of Maggie Valley and Waynesville. Max Patch is a popular attraction in the National Forest and a portion of the trail is concurrent with the Appalachian Trail. Waynesville is the closest small town (18 miles), and provides basic department and grocery stores as well as a quaint downtown district with local food and effects.
